Insurance Requirements

Butler University requires all organizations who host events or programs on campus to carry appropriate insurance. The purpose of this is to indemnify Butler University for any loss resulting from bodily injury or property damage which may arise from the operations, employees, or agents of the organization. The group must provide a copy of this insurance certificate, adding Butler University as an additional insured to the insurance policy, to the Office of University Events at Butler University 30 days prior to the start of the event or program. This policy must remain in effect for the entire length of the event or program.

Commercial Users

The policy must provide the following coverage and limits as a minimum:

  • $2,000,000 per occurrence under general liability


  • $1,000,000 per occurrence under general liability and $1,000,000 per occurrence under umbrella liability

Personal Users

Liability coverage can be satisfied by use of a Homeowners policy or combination of Homeowners and Personal Umbrella policy with a combined limit of no less than $1,500,000. Please review a sample certificate of insurance for personal users.


Sexual Abuse and Molestation coverage is required for groups hosting minors. Please review a sample certificate of insurance if minors are present.
