COVID-19 Update: April 24, 2020

In the interest and safety of all guests and members of the university, we have canceled all on-campus conferences, camps and activities through June 30, 2020. This includes any event, gathering and program originally scheduled to use campus meeting and performance spaces, outdoor space, athletic and health and recreation facilities, housing facilities, and campus dining halls.

The safety of all University guests and our Butler community is our priority. We continue to monitor the situation and will make a decision about July events and programs by mid-May.

Hospitality on South Campus

Hospitality House on South Campus at Butler University

This Magnificent English Colonial home, built in the year 1929, is nestled on the banks of the White River and Indianapolis Central Canal in a town that was known as Shooters Hill until 1951. Acquired by Butler University in 2018, the house is host to guests of Butler, Christian Theological Seminary (CTS), and the Indianapolis community. It is the focal point of University Event’s newly developing guest housing options at Butler University, and host to a variety of events. These events have included departmental retreats and alumni wine and dessert tasting gatherings. With new life and daily upgrades, the Hospitality House will serve the community of Butler University families, visitors, and guests for years to come!
When you enter through the front door, the first floor is a welcome to campus. With community space consisting of a fully furnished living room with a 65-inch smart HDTV, dining room, library, and fully equipped kitchen, including basic cooking items and dinnerware. Located in the lower level of the house, a HE washer and dryer is complementary with your stay. Parking at the Hospitality House is complementary and located next to the house. The Hospitality House has eleven rooms, each with their own unique layouts and amenities to offer to our guests. As we continue to upgrade rooms throughout the house, we believe our guests will continue to enjoy their visits to Butler University! The newest upgraded room to the Hospitality House is guest room 204. With a full size bed, this comfortable room is enhanced with additional amenities during your stay. This room has an attached private bathroom, walk-in closet, and beautiful views of the Indianapolis Canal and White River. You will enjoy such amenities as a 43-inch smart HDTV, mini refrigerator, microwave, and complimentary wireless high speed Butler University internet. $110.00 per night with reduced rates for extended stays.


Room 308

Hospitality House, Room 308 Living Space

The most spacious room in the Hospitality House is guest room 308. With a queen size memory foam mattress, this comfortable room is enhanced with additional amenities during your stay. With a couch and chair that fold down to sleep additional guests, room 308 gives you enough space to relax after exploring our campus.The room includes a private bathroom, living room space, and beautiful views of the Indianapolis Canal and White River. You will enjoy such amenities as a 43-inch smart HDTV, mini refrigerator, microwave, Keurig coffeemaker, and complimentary wireless high speed Butler University internet. $130.00 per night with reduced rates for extended stays.

Other Guestrooms

The remaining guestrooms in the Hospitality House consist of four (4) rooms with private bathrooms and five (5) rooms with shared hall bathrooms. Each room has a minimum of an extra-long twin size bed, linens, dresser or closet, desk with chair, nightstand, lamp, and alarm clock. $90.00 per night for rooms with private bathrooms and $80.00 for room with shared hall bathrooms. Reduced rates for extended stays can be applied.

49th Street Duplex

Located across from historic Hinkle Fieldhouse, the 49th Street Duplex is a great accommodation for your visit to Butler University! Just adjacent to the Duplex is the Sunset Avenue Parking Garage, home to Chatham Tap. The Duplex has two completely separate, but identical sides that create a home away from home. On a warm summer day, sit outside in the blue chairs and watch the cars pass by. On a cold winter’s night, watch Hoosiers from across the place it was filmed. No matter the season of your visit, having a place to check into after a visit to campus, game at Hinkle, or show at Clowes Memorial Hall is the convenience and comfort of the 49th Street Duplex. $170.00 per night with reduce rates for extended stays. 


The 49th Street Duplex has two completely separate, but identical sides. Guests may either stay in 507 or 509 side of the Duplex. Each side is fully furnished and complete with two bedrooms with queen size beds, bathroom, living room, and kitchen areas. The living room is complete with a HDTV and basic cable, blu-ray/DVD player and queen sleeper sofa. A fully equipped kitchen, including Keurig coffee maker, includes basic cooking items and dinnerware for guests to use. Full-size HE washer and dryer is located in the lower level of the accommodations and is complimentary for guests to use during your stay. Lastly, each bedroom includes a queen size bed, dresser, and closet. Free WiFi for guests of the Duplex and each guest receives complimentary parking in the Sunset Avenue Parking Garage during your stay.

Butler Arts and Events Center

Clowes Memorial Hall, Butler Arts & Events Center

The Butler Arts & Events Center (BAEC) is home to Butler University’s event facilities including performance venues, conference and meeting rooms, outdoor spaces and housing. Its performance venues welcome more than 200,000 visitors annually, with 30,000 from the student matinee series. The BAEC is comprised of five venues including its flagship 2124 seat venue Clowes Memorial Hall, the Schrott Center for the Arts with 475 seats, Shelton Auditorium with nearly 400 seats, Eidson-Duckwall Recital Hall with 135 seats, and Lilly Hall Studio Theatre with up to 100 seats. Programming includes the Butler Arts Presents series, BAEC’s Education Matinee Series, Jordan College of the Arts performances, Broadway In Indianapolis shows, various Butler lecture series, performances from local performing arts organizations, and a variety of national touring shows. Additionally, the Butler Campus has dozens more meeting and event spaces suitable for functions from weddings and summer camps to seminars and conferences.

The Bulldogs have carried on the winning traditions set forth by Tony Hinkle. In the past decade, Butler teams have captured 29 conference championships (in four different leagues). The Bulldogs have made appearances in NCAA National Championship Tournaments in men’s and women’s basketball, men’s soccer, volleyball, men’s and women’s cross country, lacrosse and baseball. The Butler men’s basketball program is nationally known and advanced to the NCAA Division I National Championship Game in both 2010 and 2011. Historic Hinkle Fieldhouse

Hinkle Fieldhouse, Butler University

Hinkle Fieldhouse has reigned as one of the nation’s great sports arenas for more than eight decades. The classic facility was constructed in 1928 and it has stood up to the test of time, maintaining the splendor, character and atmosphere that made it one of the nation’s most famous basketball arenas for nearly a century. And during the summer of 2014, the Fieldhouse underwent a major $36 million renovation that provided significant upgrades and improvements to make a great facility even better! When the Fieldhouse was originally constructed, it was the largest basketball arena in the United States, and it retained that distinction for more than 20 years. The Fieldhouse was named to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983, and declared a National Historic Landmark in 1987. Holcomb Gardens

Holcomb Gardens, Butler University

Nestled along the historic Indianapolis Central Canal, Holcomb Gardens is 20 acres of beautiful wooded land. Between the trees, ponds, trails, bridges, and native flora, Holcomb Gardens is truly an enchanting place! The gardens were designed by James Holcomb, a Trustee to the University, and Arthur Lindberg. The creation of the space was completed in 1950 and has been the host to many memorable events over the years. In the middle of the Gardens, a 500- foot-long grass mall featuring the statue of Persephone by French sculptor Armand Toussaint. The Garden House accommodates up to 50 guests and can be utilized for wedding parties in preparation for ceremonies. Lastly, on top of the Gardens is the Mrs. James Irving Holcomb Memorial Carillon Tower, whose beautiful music can be heard daily throughout Holcomb Gardens.

Holcomb Observatory & Planitarium

Holcomb Observatory, Butler University

Holcomb Observatory and Planetarium has been serving Butler University students and Central Indiana for over 60 years. The observatory, one of the largest public observatories in the world, houses a 38-inch Cassegrain reflector in addition to a number of smaller telescopes, along with a fully immersive digital planetarium. It is among the ten largest telescopes East of the Mississippi River. The observatory can be visited during our regular public tours, or groups can schedule group tours at other times.

The new business building that houses the Lacy School of Business now holds a sleek new coffee spot, featuring local Julian Roasters coffee, Illinois Street Emporium pastries, and breakfast sandwiches made fresh and ready to order. The Market Place

In the Marketplace at Atherton Union, you will enjoy a dynamic all-you-care-to-eat dining experience infused with the energy and excitement of a retail experience. Live action station concepts will emphasize locally sourced Indiana ingredients prepared with a global outlook. Bon Appétit’s culinary standards ensure everything is cooked from scratch in house and prepared in small batches to ensure the highest quality. The Health & Recreation Center (HRC)

HRC, Butler University

Located west of Hinkle Fieldhouse, The Health and Recreation Complex (HRC) offers many programs and services to Butler students, faculty, staff, and alumni, as well as the Indianapolis community. Not only is it the main stomping ground for the Department of Recreation and Wellness, the HRC also houses the offices of Counseling and Consultation ServicesHealth Services, and Sexual Assault Response and Prevention, making it a true wellness center on campus.  The HRC isn’t just a resource for Butler University. Butler University is five miles from downtown Indianapolis and five minutes from Broad Ripple, a popular section of the city featuring boutiques, cafés, galleries, and a wide array of cuisines. Terms & Conditions

  • Check-in will take place at the Butler University Police Department  (525 Hampton).  Check-in is no earlier than 4:00 PM.
  • Valid identification must be provided at time of check-in.
  • To check-out, keys must be deposited in the blue key box located outside of the front door by noon on the date of check-out or there will be a $300 key replacement charge.
  • There is no daily cleaning of the house. It is expected that the guests will maintain acceptable level of cleanliness while staying, including washing bed linens, towels, dishes, etc. on a weekly basis. Housekeeping will complete the routine cleaning, change beds, etc. upon check out.
  • Cleaning or repair/replacement charges may be billed for damage, missing or broken items, or excessive messes left by guests.
  • Smoking and pets are not allowed in the house. Guests will be asked to vacate if evidence of smoking or pets is discovered and an additional cleaning fee will be charged.
  • All applicable University and University Events polices will be followed by all guests.
  • Parking is located in the garage one block from the house. Guests will be responsible for any parking citations.
